FOLB Board Meeting Minutes: May 10, 2011

FRIENDS OF LADY bIRD

Board Meeting –
Lincoln Street

Tuesday, May 10,
2011 –  5:30 p.m.

Present:  Leonard Bentch, Al Bickle, Jerry  Fischer, Jerald Gold,  Anna Marie Kluber, Jimmy Lukacs,  Ron Moerbe and Judy Chase.

Absent:  Brian Davis, Jim Drewitz,  Joe Kammlah, Betsy Nogueira and Bruce Reeh.

President Leonard
Bentch called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.

Minutes from the
April meeting had been e-mailed and no corrections were made

Treasurer Betsy
Nogueira was absent.  Only one check was
written this month, $559.00 for bag tags.

OLD BUSINESS:

JR. Golf update:
Ron Moerbe reported that the Junior Golf Camp to be held in June will be
conducted by

the
pros. Tuition will be reasonable and if substantial interest is shown,
additional sessions will

be
added.

Bag Tags:  very successful campaign with
103 sold to date.  Alan very generously
agreed to have

his
staff collect the money and distribute the tags at the front desk.  Thanks, Alan!

Lady Bird Strategic Planning Committee
Report
:  Anna Marie Kluber , Jerry Fischer , Leonard
Bentch and                Jimmy Lukacs all
contributed to a thorough  update on the
Blume plans, the three financial

options
offered  (1.4 million will allow no
fairway improvements; 1.8 million will include fairways;  3.5 million will cover everything) and the
two  favored for presentation to City
Council.

How
to cover costs?  We “have” $550,000 from
the county (airport settlement), we borrow 1.3 at 3.25%, and Alan increases
course play to 5,000 rounds a year…  He
also wants to “rework” the practice facility in the near future and plans to
keep that open throughout the construction

phase
(February-September, 2012) both for
practice and for lessons.  Alan will also
try to arrange reciprocity with neighboring
courses for Lady Bird members .

The
question was asked, “What is the on-going role of FOLB?”  Al remarked that we started out

to
improve the course, hire Alan and to improve cart paths…  We are to be involved not in outcomes,
necessarily, but rather in the process.
Our goal is to see a Master Plan evolve; now that we have Alan to
oversee that, our responsibility changes…
“We are process/procedure/ measurement people, neither pro nor con,
focused only on consensus –building,” Leonard submitted.

FOLB
will sponsor Town Hall talks with Alan who will present his vision of the
Master Plan

that
will follow in incremental phases.  This
Master Plan will paint a picture of what Lady

Bird
can “look” like in 5, 10 and 15 years.

December Tournament Meeting:
Jimmy Lukacs, Ernie Loeffler, Jerald Gold and Leonard will meet

Thursday,
4 pm at Lady Bird for planning.

St. Mary’s Tournament:
FOLB will be sponsoring the 11th hole with details to follow

NEW BUSINESS:

It was decided that a card be sent to Jim
Drewitz, letting him know that we are thinking of him.

Ron Moerbe made a motion to adjourn.  It was seconded and passed. Meeting adjourned
at 7:31 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Chase, Secretary
