FOLB Board Minutes: June 11, 2013


Board Meeting:  Cardinal Room at Lady Bird Golf Club on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 5:30 p.m.

Present: Leonard Bentch, Bruce Reeh, Anna Marie Kluber, Ann Armentrout, Ron Moerbe, Buzz Roye, Jimmy Lukacs, Shelly Ross,

Mark Seitz and Judy Chase.

Absent:  Joe Kammlah, Bill Lindemann, Jim Drewitz, Jerald Gold, Ernie Leoffler and Al Bickle.

President Leonard Bentch called the meeting to order at 5:30.

Ron Moerbe moved to accept the May Meeting minutes as electronically transmitted and Mark Seitz seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

Treasurer Ann Armentrout reported a combined treasury balance of $3,782.37. The General Fund  – $1,056 and the Foundation – $2,725.37.
Committee Reports

Junior Golf:  Buzz Roye  reported 316 youth lessons have been given to the Ambleside and Boot Ranch/Lady Bird juniors.

Alan and Shelly (along with Edwin and Janie) will offer Junior Clinics on Wednesday and Friday, June 19th and 21st, and on the following week dates of the 26th and 28th of June.  The cost of the clinic for 5-9 year old youth will be $40 and for the 10-18 year olds, the cost will be $60.  If these clinics go well, others (of limited size) will be offered later in the summer.  Scholarships based upon financial need will be made available.

Outreach to schools other than Ambleside (Heritage and St. Mary’s) will be made.  Mark Seitz and Jimmy Lukacs have offered to liaison with those schools.

Green Committee:  Ron Moerbe remarked on the beauty of the growing grass!    He reported that landscaping will proceed behind the 9th green and that maintenance crews will use a rock saw on the cart path between the 6th tee box and the green, an effort to prevent walkers from slipping/falling.  Bill Hannah announced that the greens will be double cut and rolled early tomorrow morning before the final round of the Super Senior Championship Tournament.  He also mentioned that the practice putting green has been aerified and top-dressed; that green has received tremendous play and requires a “rest”.

Handicap Committee:  Jimmy Lukacs discussed his committee’s access to handicapping tournaments.  They recently were included in preparations for the FGA Tournament.  Bill Hannah welcomes the committee to come out and spot where it would like tees to be set for handicapped events.

D.O.G. Report, Alan Wooley,  P.G.A.:

Sets of Junior Golf Clubs in three sizes have been purchased for use in future clinics

The golf course is way ahead of the pro-forma; 42% of April rounds were out- of -county rounds as  were  35% of May rounds!

The date has been set for the Charity Marathon – Monday, August 19th!

Political Landscape in the community:  Gary Neffendorf remains a strong supporter of the golf course.  While the City Council will be raising rates at the golf course, we are hopeful that those increases will be incremental.

Alan, in his upcoming budget request, will ask for an enlargement of the practice tee from 16,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet.  He want to press onward to Phase II of the Course construction (maintenance shed behind 6th hole, added parking, new cart barn, electric carts, teaching facility, etc)

Report to City Council:  Leonard proposed that we reformat last year’s report with special emphasis on a continuing relationship with the USGA.  We also hope to grow our Junior Golf Program at Lady Bird.  Finally, we encourage Council to establish a Parks Advisory Board because of  programming issues.

Having concluded our business, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  Meeting was adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
